Content Management Systems or your CMS
Here's our second "use us, do'nt use us" chat! If you are getting a website developed for you then please get a content management system with it and then when you do have this content management system (or CMS) then please use it!! When your website is developed, it is very unlikely that your business will not change, that you will not take on new products, new clients or maybe win an award. If there is anything that needs to be changed on your website, why would you want to run back to your website developer to make the changes - would it not make more sense for you to make those changes yourself? It is the Content Management System or CMS that allows you to make those changes. And a CMS should allow you to change ALL PARTS OF THE WEBSITE - not just the news section!! So a Grow Sales Online tip - if you cannot change all parts of your website then you do not have a content management system, you have a content editing system. When we say all parts we mean all parts. So, if you are talking to a website designer and they are saying that they will allow you to manage the content on your website ask these questions and if the answer is anything short of a wholehearted "Yes, and let me show you how easy it is" then please give us a call! Here's the questions: Can I change menu item names? Can I add and delete menu items? Can I create a completely new menu if I want - this website has 2 menus one called "Here we go" and one called "Guides" Can I change title tags (do not worry about what they are just yet) Can I change description tags? Can I have totally unique title tags for each and every page? Can I have as many pages as I want? Can I add, edit and delete pages as I see fit? Can I create sub-menus under main menu items if I wish? If the answer is anything short of "Of course you can" then it's not really a content management system and your website presence will suffer as a result. Oh, and the Grow Sales Online answer is "Yes" to all those questions and we would be delighted to show you!
